With the counting of the votes in the elections for seats on Wakefield Council starting this morning, results will filter through for each ward throughout the day.
Just over a third of Wakefield Council seats – 22 in total – are being contested.

Pontefract North
Helen Kirsty Antcliff of the Labour Party has been elected for the Pontefract North ward with 1,717 votes.
Wakefield North
Elizabeth Rhodes of the Labour Party has been elected for the Wakefield North ward with 1,613 votes.
South Elmsall and South Kirkby
Michelle Louise Collins of the Labour Party has been elected for the South Elmsall and South Kirkby ward with 1,893 votes.

Chief Executive of Wakefield Council Tony Reeves
Chief Executive of Wakefield Council, Tony Reeves, has shared an update from Thornes Park Athletics Stadium.
Julie Medford and Daniel Wilton, both of the Labour and Co-operative Party, have been elected for the Normanton ward. Julie received 1,709 votes and Daniel received 1,303 votes.
Wakefield elections 2024
Ten of the results have been declared this morning. Labour has so far gained three seats, all from independent candidates. The Lib Dems have held onto the Knottingley ward. The results for the Normanton ward, where two candidates are to be elected, are expected shortly.
Castleford Central and Glasshoughton
Richard Anthony Forster of the Labour Party has been elected for the Castleford Central and Glasshoughton ward with 1,713 votes.
