ANYONE who has been down to Pontefract Park recently can see for himself how it has been allowed to deteriorate.
It is a crying shame to see such a splendid public open space not used to its full potential, all it needs is some investment and planning. A new building should be built, combining lake hut and changing rooms and toilets, also the possibility of a c
afe, which could be open at limited times.
This could be on the site of the old changing rooms, it is an ideal site situated close to the amenities. It would need to be a more secure site than the one is now, but it also wants to be in keeping with the surroundings.
It does not want to be some ugly modern building, which is a blot on the landscape, but something similar in design to the old changing rooms that are there now.
In the summer it would be a focal point, a cafe would provide an area where people could sit outside having a cup of tea or coffee and a bite to eat. It would compliment race days, when the park really comes into its element.
There is no doubt such an enterprise would take some implementing, but with the determination of all the stakeholders it is achieveable.

REGARDING ideas for the regeneration of Pontefract Park, I would like a coffee bar with indoor and outdoor seating.
Another suggestion is a picnic area with tables and seating. I would also like to see some live concerts take place there, aimed at different age groups which would bring revenue into the town.
The lake certainly needs cleaning up.

I AM a 14-year-old boy and throughout my life I have never seen Pontefract Park as untidy as today.
I think that we should help tidy up our park and also hold more events there.
I am one of the people who enjoy playing tennis at the park and I pay to play on concrete with potholes in and the fencing is horrible. I think that some of the money you pay should go towards refurbishment.
