CONGRATULATIONS to the two pupils at Carleton Community High School for achieving such a high attendance record (Express, July 3). They must have "super human" immune systems.
It brings back memories of my school days at Orchard Head in the 1960s.
The pupil with the best attendance record was called out in assembly, in front of the whole school and presented with a silver trophy. You were allowed to take it home as long as you promised to polish it before you brought it back.

Not many of us won the cup very often because as soon as you caught measles, chicken pox or mumps, we were all gathered together by our mums to get infected to give us future immunity.
So even though we weren't often worthy enough for the silver cup at least we all had a laugh playing "who's got the most spots".
