I READ with great pleasure the report in the Express on the Pontefract Liquorice Fesitval, not least the wonderful photographs.

I want to congratulate all the organisers for providing such a wonderful weekend. However, I regret that owing to ill health, I was unable to attend.
I hope these hard working people who keep the Pontefract history alive continue to do so, although I am aware it is a struggle for them to maintain the financial resources which are required to continue this wonderful weekend.

As I look at the photographs of the crowds in the Market Place it certainly gives evidence of the enjoyment people experienced. Well done to the organisers – keep up the good work.
I am also delighted that Hardwick Road post office is to remain open after the great campaign by local people to persuade the appropriate authorities to make this decision.

I hope the representations made by Yvette Cooper MP and myself to the Post Office and the Minister of State for Employment and Postal Affairs has been on some assistance to the campaign and hopefully had a bearing on this result.
