KNITTING fanatics are needed to raise vital funds for Age Concern by making woolly hats for smoothies.
The unusual request – which comes from the charity, Innocent drinks and Sainsbury’s – will help keep old people in the district warm over the winter period.
The little hats will sit on Innocent smoothie bottles in Sainsbury’s stores from November 5, and the supermarket will give 50p to the charity for each one that they sell.
Vanda Dunnachie, community worker at Age Concern Wakefield District, said: “The more hats we make, the more money we can raise.
“It really is fun and relatively quick to do as the hats are so little. Anyone can make a hat for us, and good knitters could use this opportunity to share their talents by teaching someone else how to make one.”
Age Concern Wakefield District has pledged to make 2,000 hats.
Last year’s Big Knit campaign raised a record-breaking £200,000 for Age Concern nationally to fund winter warmth projects.
Knitters can collect a simple pattern or donate double knit wool at 7 Bank Street, Castleford or by calling 01977 552114.
