HUNDREDS of pupils across the Five Towns were jumping for joy after opening their record-breaking GCSE results.
Clever students at Pontefract's The King's School were celebrating the best results in the Mil Hill Lane school's history – with 78 per cent achieving five A*-C grades.
Julie Craig, headteacher, said: "We are delighted with our students' results –
we are very proud of their achievements. This is the culmination of students' hard work with the support of their parents and the commitment of quality teachers."
Sixteen teenagers achieved eight or more A* or A grades.
At Featherstone's St Wilfrid's Catholic High School, students improved on last year's record-breaking results.
The pass rate at the Cutsyke Road school – which has increased by 31 per cent over the last five years – rose again, with 92.5 per cent of pupils gaining five A*-C grades.
Five students managed to obtain at least ten grade As and A*s.
John McNally, headteacher, said: "I am delighted for all the pupils. They have worked really hard and have been a pleasure to teach.
"I would like to thank all the staff who have worked so hard in helping the students and continue to deliver improvements."
Pupils at Castleford High School registered a third year of improvement for the school, with 72 per cent of pupils gaining five A*-C grades.
Siblings Emily and Philip Reynards at the Ferrybridge Road school gained ten A*s, six As and three Bs between them.
Headteacher Roy Vaughan said: "The performance of all our pupils has been wonderful and a great credit to their hard work and that of the staff, parents and governors of the school."
Students at Carleton Community High School also beat all targets to gain the school's best ever GCSE results.
Rob Foreman, headteacher, said: "I'm absolutely delighted with our results. They are a reflection of all the hard work of the year 11 students and staff."
Staff and students at Featherstone Technology College were celebrating "fantastic" results.
Dr Stuart Wilson, headteacher, said: "Our results have more than doubled in recent years, with 60 per cent of students gaining five A*-C grades. These results show the hard work of our students and staff and the support of their families and our community."
