The club has grilled two of the four-man short-list, with interviews with the final two applicants set to take place last night.
Sharp, who chose the final four from 11 applicants, said: "If things go as planned, maybe by the end of the week Featherstone Rovers will be able to announce a new head coach."
Hull KR utility Chris Chester, who this week announced his retirement as a player, has been linked with the position, as has Danny Evans, who has been mentored by Sharp since the departure of David Hobbs at the end of June.
Evans and Dave Downs will take charge of the side for the final two games of the season - at Dewsbury on Sunday and at home to Halifax seven days later.
Sharp's involvement at Rovers ended yesterday when he handed the club a detailed de-brief of his time at Post Office Road. The review included recommendations and plans to establish Featherstone as a leading light in National League.
Said Sharp: "I'm really grateful to the club and I've enjoyed my time there. I've seen an ambition to move forward and improve and with the right guidance, and the right direction from a new head coach, I think it can be one of the top four clubs in National League.
"It needs to be run on a sound financial base but there are businessmen on the board intelligent and successful enough in their own environment to be able to carry that off."
Sharp was this week appointed football operations manager with Super League outfit Hull FC. He takes up the two-year position in December.
Meanwhile, Tommy Haughey looks set to miss the final two matches with a knee problem and Waine Pryce is a doubt for Sunday's game with a groin strain. But hooker Joe McLocklan could return after making encouraging progress from a knee injury and Andy Kain, who missed the defeat at Widnes last Sunday, is also in contention.
