WELFARE had to settle for a share of the spoils in their West Yorkshire League Division One opener against Horbury .
But with several key players unavailable, they were pleased to come away a point.
Both teams got off to a good start and Welfare went close through early on but desperate defending denied Calvin White and Nikki Ramskill.
The hosts continued to press, with James Hicks and Andy Bedford prominent in midfield, and Ramskill almost opened the scoring but his header crashed off the bar.
Town struggled to create chances in the face of fine defending from John Wilson and Lee Ward while at the other end Kellingley continued to press forward in search of a winner where Nelson Mendonca and Ramskill were combining well.
Lee Joynt and Luke Beecher were introduced off the bench and the fresh legs almost reaped dividends as Waite went through but his shot sailed just wide of the post.
Town were thwarted by good stops by home keeper Adam Tasker and Welfare ran out of time as they searched for a decisive goal against a Town team boasting NCE League experience.
Teenager Josh Beecher enjoyed a good debut at right-back in a solid performance by Welfare, who take on bogey side Churwell on Saturday.
